Implants
Implants are the last method of restoring teeth that the patient has lost for whatever reason. Their significant clinical success and acceptance by the majority of patients makes them the solution of choice in cases of natural tooth loss. An implant is a small titanium screw that acts as a replacement for the root of a lost tooth. With the use of implants we can replace one to all missing teeth.
Direct installation and charging
Usually the implants are placed into the bone and there is a period of 3 to 5 months until the final prosthetic work is placed. This is done to ensure the initial integration of the implants with the jawbone, the so-called osseointegration. In many cases it is possible to place the implants immediately after tooth extraction and to place a temporary prosthetic work (fixed or mobile) that serves the patient directly. After the safety period of 3 to 5 months, the permanent prosthesis is fabricated and placed.
Installation procedure
After local anesthesia is applied to the area of the missing tooth, an incision is made in the gums and the jawbone is exposed. A well is then drilled into the bone, about 10-15mm long, into which the implant is screwed. The gums are then sutured in order to carry out the process of osseointegration for 3-4 months. After this period of time, an incision is again made in the gums above the implant placement site to expose and place the transmucosal healing element (coloboma), which holds the gums to heal and acquire normal morphology. After 2 weeks, impressions of the jaws are taken in order to fabricate the prosthetic tooth which will be screwed onto the main implant.
Conditions for implant placement
– Healthy bone with sufficient height, thickness, density (check with CT scan)
– Treated Ulitis – Periodontitis
– Patient practice of adequate oral hygiene
– No serious health problems
Advantages
– Flawless aesthetics, safe solution, high success rate
– The adjacent teeth are not affected (they do not come out of alignment like on bridges)
– Comfortable and stable restoration of teeth
– Longer and more reliable solution
– Made of titanium (anti-allergic and biocompatible material)
– Avoid the placement of mobile dentures
– The discomfort after the operation is much less than a simple extraction, combined with appropriate medication.
Disadvantages
– Duration of treatment completion about 3-6 months
– The cost of treatment is relatively higher
